Hair loss has many causes, and each one needs a different treatment. Most of my patients come to consultation for some form of alopecia: my work always begins by precisely identifying which one, before suggesting any treatment.

Why diagnosis changes everything

“Alopecia” is a symptom with many faces: it can have a genetic, autoimmune, hormonal, inflammatory or scarring origin, and each origin responds to a different treatment. Trichoscopy, examining the scalp with a dermatoscope, identifies the exact pattern right in the same visit, in most cases, and is the starting point of every consultation.

Telogen effluvium

You lose handfuls when washing or brushing and your hair looks thinner overall, with no specific area. It usually starts two or three months after childbirth, surgery, strict dieting or a very stressful period.
